5 Shopify Email Flows That Grow Revenue on Autopilot, Shopify guide by Azizul Islam

Quick answer: the email flows that drive the most revenue for Shopify stores are welcome, abandoned checkout, browse abandonment, post-purchase and win-back. Set these five automations up once in Shopify Email or Klaviyo and they earn money every day without extra ad spend.

Ads bring visitors. Email brings them back, at almost no cost per message. For many of the stores I work on, automated flows become one of the most reliable sources of revenue once they are set up properly.

Before you start: grow your list

  • Add a popup with a clear reason to join: a first-order offer, early access or a useful guide.
  • Show it after a short delay or on exit intent, not the moment someone lands.
  • Allow marketing sign-up at checkout.

1. Welcome flow

Sent when someone joins your list. This is where new subscribers are most interested.

  • Email 1 (immediately): deliver the promised offer and introduce your brand.
  • Email 2 (day 2): your best sellers and why customers love them, with reviews.
  • Email 3 (day 4): your story, guarantees and a reminder that the offer expires.

2. Abandoned checkout flow

Sent when someone starts checkout but does not pay. Send a reminder after about an hour, answer objections after a day, and only offer an incentive in the final email.

3. Browse abandonment flow

Sent when a known subscriber views a product but does not add it to the cart. Keep it light: “Still thinking about this?” with the product, reviews and similar items. Klaviyo and Shopify Email both support this type of trigger.

4. Post-purchase flow

  • Thank you: what happens next and when to expect delivery.
  • Product tips: how to use or care for what they bought.
  • Review request: after the product has arrived and been used.
  • Cross-sell: a related product, a few weeks later.

5. Win-back flow

Sent to customers who have not ordered for a while. Time it to your product cycle, for example 60 to 90 days for most products, sooner for consumables. Remind them what they loved, show what is new and, if needed, offer a small comeback incentive.

Tips that lift every flow

  • Write subject lines like a person, not a newsletter.
  • One message, one main button.
  • Design for mobile first: most emails are opened on a phone.
  • Authenticate your sending domain so emails land in the inbox.
  • Check flow revenue monthly and improve the weakest email.

Frequently asked questions

Shopify Email or Klaviyo?

Shopify Email is simple and built in, which suits new stores. Klaviyo offers deeper segmentation, more triggers and better reporting, which pays off as your list and catalogue grow.

How often should I send campaigns?

Flows run automatically. On top of them, one or two campaigns a week is a common starting point. Watch unsubscribes and adjust.

Do I need SMS as well?

Not at the start. Get email flows working first, then test SMS for abandoned checkout and launches if your audience uses it.
