Shopify Products Not Showing on Google? How to Get Indexed Fast, Shopify guide by Azizul Islam

Quick answer: if your Shopify products are not showing on Google, first make sure your store is not password protected, then verify it in Google Search Console, submit your sitemap (yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml) and request indexing for key pages. For the Google Shopping tab, you also need to connect Google Merchant Center through the Google & YouTube app.

New store owners often expect products to appear on Google the day they launch. In reality Google has to discover, crawl and index each page, and a few common settings can stop that from happening. Here is how to fix it.

1. Remove the store password

While your online store is password protected, Google cannot see your pages. Remove the password in Online Store > Preferences once you are on a paid plan and ready to launch.

2. Verify your store in Google Search Console

  • Add your domain as a property in Google Search Console.
  • Verify it with the DNS record method, or paste the verification meta tag into your theme.
  • Use the main domain your customers see, not the myshopify.com address.

3. Submit your sitemap

Shopify generates a sitemap automatically at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. Submit it in Search Console under Sitemaps. It lists your products, collections, pages and blog posts, and updates as you add new ones.

4. Request indexing for important pages

Use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console to check a product URL. If it says the page is not indexed, click Request indexing. Do this for your homepage, main collections and best-selling products.

5. Check for noindex settings

Some themes and SEO apps add a noindex tag to certain pages. Inspect a product page in Search Console. If it reports “Excluded by noindex tag”, check your SEO app settings and theme code.

6. Give Google a reason to index your pages

Google may crawl a page but choose not to index it if the content is thin or copied. This is common with dropshipping stores that use supplier descriptions.

  • Write unique product titles and descriptions.
  • Add a unique SEO title and meta description to each product and collection.
  • Add descriptive alt text to product images.
  • Link to key products from your homepage, collections and blog posts.

7. Show products in the Google Shopping tab

Organic search results and the Shopping tab are different. To appear in free Shopping listings, install the Google & YouTube app, connect Google Merchant Center and sync your products. Fix any product disapprovals it reports, such as missing GTINs, images or shipping settings.

How long does it take?

After you submit your sitemap and request indexing, pages are often indexed within a few days to a few weeks. Ranking well for competitive keywords takes longer and depends on content, links and authority.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google show my myshopify.com address?

Make sure your custom domain is set as the primary domain in Shopify. Shopify then redirects the myshopify address to it, and Google updates over time.

Do I need an SEO app?

Not for indexing. Shopify already creates sitemaps, canonical tags and basic structured data. An app can help manage meta tags and image alt text at scale.

Why are only some products indexed?

Usually because of thin or duplicate content, very new pages or weak internal linking. Improve the product content and link to those products from collections and blog posts.
